The Other Guys (2010)

The Other Guys is another one movies about a couple of mismatched cops who become buddies, and clear up the streets in the process – but it takes itself a bit less seriously than most. Directed by Adam Mckay, who previously directed Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Anchoman: The Legend of Ron Burgendy, it stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg stumble along as the aforementioned loser cops, who hope to emulated city hero cops played by Samuel L Jackson and Dwayne Johnson. There are a whole host of star names in the supporting cast including Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton and Steve Coogan.

It’s not really my sort of film to be honest though it does look like it might be funny in a sort of cringe-worthy way. I’m not a big fan of Will Ferrell personally, though I do tend to like Duane Johnson in comic roles and he and Samuel L Jackson look like they enjoy overplaying their roles as big name, property damaging cops (from the trailer, anyway). The movie’s current IMDB rating of 6.7/10 suggests that either it’s an okay movie, or that it’s a real love-it or hate-it affair, slightly tipped in the balance of people loving it.

The Other Guys DVD isn’t exactly on the top of my shopping list... but it may well be a title I decide to pick up if I see it going cheap and am in the mood for some unashamedly silly entertainment (and let’s face it, who isn’t once in a while?!)
